Tar Heels take a one-game lead in the ACC.

The UNC volleyball team lost its second ACC match of the season Saturday night when it fell to Wake Forest, 3-1, (30-28, 25-30, 29-31, 22-30). Despite the loss, Carolina (18-5, 10-2 ACC) remains one game ahead of Duke at the top of the ACC standings.
Nicole Reis led the Tar Heels with 21 kills and 24 digs, while Laura Greene added 14 kills and 18 digs. Malaika Underwood and Eve Rackham split time at setter with Underwood recording 23 assists and Rackham totaling 22 assists. Holly Strauss had 12 blocks for the match and added nine kills, as well.
Trina Maso de Mayo paced Wake Forest (14-8, 7-5 ACC) with 21 kills, 29 digs and eight service aces. Ashlee Phillips led the Deacons in assists with 49.
Carolina outhit Wake .220 to .093 in the first game and used six kills from Greene to take the game, 30-28.
Wake Forest jumped out to a 13-3 lead in game two on the strength of four service aces in an eight-point stretch by the Deacon's Maso de Moya. Carolina battled back, however, to pull to within two at 13-15. The Deacons then went on a 9-1 run to take a 24-14 lead before the Tar Heels could recover and close the gap to three at 23-26. Wake proved too strong in the final points, however, taking the game, 30-25.
The Tar Heels led game three most of the way and held a 25-21 advantage before Wake knotted the score at 28-28 and took the game 31-28.
Game four was tight early before Wake used a 10-3 run to turn a 15-14 lead into a 25-17 advantage. The Tar Heels closed to within five at 22-27 but could get no closer as Wake took the game, 22-30.
The Tar Heels are back in action Nov. 2 when they travel to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech at 7 p.m.
