Outside hitters Nicole Reis and Laura Greene each recorded 18 kills as the No. 25 North Carolina volleyball team defeated Virginia, 3-1 (29-31, 30-18, 34-32, 30-23). With their 13th-consecutive victory, the ACC-leading Tar Heels improve to 17-3, 9-0 in the ACC, while Virginia falls to 5-1, 1-8 in conference action.
Five Tar heels had double-digit digs -- Malaika Underwood (21), Greene (19), Caroline deRoeck (12), Eve Rackham (11) and Reis (10). Rackham also totaled 52 assists and 9 kills to narrowly miss a triple double. Krista Buchholz had 13 kills for Carolina, as well.
Shannon Boyle led the Cavaliers in kills with 15, while Jenny Harmon led the squad in digs with 18. Two Cavaliers had over 20 assists -- Lily Phillips (27) and Abby Whittenburg (21).
As a team, Carolina outhit Virginia .215 to .109.
The Tar Heels return to action Sunday when they travel to College Park, Md., to face the Maryland Terrapins at 5 p.m.
