UNC Volleyball Sweeps NC State, 3-0

Carolina topples Wolfpack in final regular season home match.

Led by three players hitting .500 for the match, the University of North Carolina volleyball team defeated NC State 3-0 (30-13, 30-22, 30-12) Tuesday night in Carmichael Auditorium. Nicole Reis (10 kills), Molly Pyles (7 kills) and Eve Rackham (2 kills) led Carolina to a team hitting percentage of .305 as the Tar Heels improved to 20-6, 12-3 in the ACC and remain in a first-place tie with Duke in the ACC. With the loss, the Wolfpack falls to 6-19, 1-14 in the ACC.

Laura Greene led the Tar Heels in kills with 12, while Reis led the squad in digs with eight. Malaika Underwood totaled 19 assists for coach Joe Sagula's squad and Rackham added 17 assists. Greene and Caroline deRoeck each posted four service aces for the match.

Allison Kreager led the Wolfpack in kills with seven, and Melanie Rowe led the squad in digs with seven. Lindi Sheppard totaled a team-high 19 assists for NC State.

For the match, Carolina outhit the Wolfpack .305 to -.022.

Game one was close early, but Carolina reeled off 17-consecutive points to turn a 6-5 lead into a 23-5 advantage and went on to take the game, 30-13.

Carolina started fast in game two, as well, jumping out to a 20-8 lead before the Wolfpack ran off nine straight points to close the gap to 20-17. The Tar Heels proved too tough down the stretch, however, as they took the game 30-21.
